The character helmuth reminds me of one of my friends. It reminds me of his because he always will do what’s right to help other even if it makes him in danger. And the character helmuth is like my friend because he puts himself in danger for the Jews and to listen to BBC radio to hear all the bad things there doing to the Jews.

I don’t really understand the part when they say “his own heart pounds each time he listens to the BBC (enemy radio station). It is every good Germans duty to report enemy propaganda to the gestapo, to turn in anyone suspected of listening to or reading enemy propaganda. Helmuth tries not to think about the dangers.” Why are they not allowed to listen to enemy propaganda? It’s only marking, but I think the real reason they could listen it was because they had already boycotted everything that was run by there enemy so they just made laws against having anything to do with the enemies.

I wonder what this mean when they said it “Hugo is proud. ” with your head, the government can use you,” Hugo tells him.” I somewhat of an idea of why he said this, I think he said this because he thinks that his step son has a sharp mind which is needed in the government but what he doesn’t know is that the step son doesn’t have the same beliefs as him and that he doesn’t want anything to do with hitler or his nazis. And that his step som doesn’t want his to know what he really believes.

This part is so unrealistic because they wouldn’t keep a non German radio and non Germany or non aprroved books in there house because that would get the family in serious trouble and it would be selfish of them to hide the book and items so I don’t really think it’s realistic that they would hide them just to read the,. But again i don’t know if these books were really worth your family’s life’s over but that was the people’s choice that were actually hiding these books and these radios.

I chose to read this book well first because I lost the money I was supposed to turn in for the book of my choice, but then I just ended up with is book because if we didn’t bring our money then we would have to read this one. But after I started reading I realized that I was glad that I had lost the money even though losing it sucked. So basically this book is good.

I really dislike the part where the people support adolf hitler, like I understand like pretty much everyone supported him at this time but they aren’t very smart. Maybe he could get you guys jobs but is a job really worth hundreds of millions of Jews dying? And also I dislike the characters Hugo because he’s trying to be a good step dad but it takes snit working and they support adolf hitler while the kid doesn’t. I think maybe as there family they should all support the same people and political groups

I think the relationship between Hugo and helmuth is interesting because of how they have such different beliefs or ways of thinking towards Hitler and his nazis. For example Hugo wants him to support Hitler and all the things he teaches including the killing of he innocent Jews and not supporting anything that comes from the us or Allie forces. But helmuth doesn’t think what Hitler is doing is right but he’s kinda afraid to say anything or stand up because if he does he could get in big trouble, such as arrested or thrown in jail or even worse killed because he was dishonorably talking about Hitler and not supporting him or his teachings (or actions)

I don’t really understand why the people at first supported Hitler and the nazis and why they still support him. Like I understand that when there were supporting Hitler they had some one to blame for the loss of World War I but still the jews weren’t the reason Germany lost. Also I can see them only supporting him because he promised them more work so they could provide for there families and feed them. He also said that he would make Germany great again but that didn’t happen obviously.
